A common misconception of deep tissue is that the pressure is harder, and meant for those with a higher pain tolerance. This idea is inaccurate, in that deep tissue simply means working with deeper tissues. This modality requires preparation by warming the surrounding muscles, as well as accuracy. Sustained compression of the muscles brings about a deeper release in the tissue, as specific sensing receptors react to this new and soothing stimulation. I only increase my pressure and depth as your body allows me to do so. Working at the rate of the tissue is my mantra when applying these techniques. Common benefits include rehabilitation, increased circulation, and chronic pain reduction.
